Privacy Policy

This Policy is intended to govern the collection, storage, use, and disclosure of personal information obtained by The British Columbia Lodging & Campgrounds Association, (hereby referred to as ‘The Company’, ‘The Agency’, or ‘We’, ‘Our’, ‘Us’), from individuals (hereby referred to as ‘User(s)’ or ‘You’, ‘Yours’) using our websites, including “Travel-British-Columbia” (hereby referred to as ‘site’ or ‘sites’ or ‘websites’ or ‘website’). It is intended to recognise the rights of individuals to protect their personal information, as well as our need to collect, store, use, and disclose information as it pertains to our business operations in a reasonable manner.

Introduction

Your privacy is very important to us, and it is important to us to be open and honest about any information we collect, and what that information does while in our possession. This document will detail: what information we collect; how we gather information about you; how that information is stored and for how long; what the information is used for; to whom that information may be disclosed; and finally how you can opt out of any part of that process, or gain access to any information we have gathered from you.

We understand the importance of safeguarding the personal information that we collect from you. We therefore take reasonable measures to protect your personal information that is under our control in an effort to prevent its loss, misuse, unauthorized access, alteration, or disclosure, including established electronic and administrative safeguards designed to make the information we collect secure.

Although we strive to keep your information secure, no policy or system can perfectly guard against the risk of intentional intrusion or inadvertent disclosure and we cannot guarantee that your information will never be disclosed in a manner inconsistent with this Policy and applicable laws. As such, it is important to note that any personal information that you provide to us is done so at your own risk.

We are committed to protecting your privacy, as well as developing technology that give you the most powerful and safe online experience. This Statement of Privacy applies to all our websites and governs data collection and usage there within. By using our websites, you consent to the data practices described in this statement.

Personal Information

Personal Information as defined in this Policy is any information about an ‘identifiable individual’. This includes information such as ethnic background, religion, marital status, medical, employment, and education. Information that is posted publicly such as listed phone number, address, and name is not considered to be personal information.

It should also be noted that the only information that will be collected, stored, used, and disclosed is information that is deemed to be useful in improving the user experience, or provides insight in ways to improve our services. And this is only done when the information is provided voluntarily.

Collecting Information

A limited amount of standard information is collected automatically by our web servers when users visit the site, to the extent that it is deemed essential to the operation, security and evaluation of our sites. This information includes:

  • The Internet Domain and Internet Protocol (IP) addresses.
  • The Web Browser and Operating System.
  • The Date and Time of access.
  • The Pages visited.
  • The Addresses of any external web sites linked to.
  • Any content downloaded from our site.

While some of this information, the browser or operating system, is general and does not identify you, other information, such as the Internet Domain names or the IP addresses may provide identification. The extent of the identification depends on the ‘naming standards’ of the internet service provider. You may wish to check with your provider and inquire about their policies and practices in this regard.

Cookies

Some of the information gained is done so using cookies, which are small pieces of data that web pages place in computers to assist you in returning to that page. We may use these cookies to track activities on our websites. It is possible to change the settings on a web page browser to deny cookies or to warn when they are present.

We do not collect any personal information about you unless you voluntarily provide it to us. This information may be required when you elect to use certain products or services available on the site. These may include: registering for an account on our site; entering a sweepstake or contest sponsored by us our one of our partners; signing up for special offers from selected third parties; sending us an email message; submitting your credit card or other payment information when making purchases on our site.

Children Under Thirteen

We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under the age of thirteen. If you are under the age of thirteen, we require that you ask permission from your parent or guardian for permission to use this website.

Retention of Information

We strive to take appropriate security measures to protect against unauthorized access to or alteration of your personal information, while it is in our possession. Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be entirely secure. As a result, accepting this Policy means that you acknowledge that: there are security and privacy limitations inherent to the Internet which are beyond our control; and that security, privacy, and integrity of any and all data transferred through this site cannot be guaranteed.

When important personal information, such as credit card information, is transmitted to other websites in the event of an online transaction through our site, it is protected through the use of encryption techniques.

Third Party Servers

Information may be stored on servers provided by third party hosting vendors who we contract with. We currently use Simpleview Inc., Nomad Reservations LLC and El Chango Media Inc. to host all of our user data, and we make extensive use of their built-in security features. We recommend that you review their privacy policies.

Information that we gain will be held only as long as it is required to fulfill the service obligations listed above. Once information is no longer required it will be disposed of or made anonymous.

Using Information

The basic data gathered by our servers that track user behaviour, while they visit our websites, may be used in order to determine which of our services are most popular. This information is not used to identify individuals who visit our site unless required to do so as part of an internal investigation or other law enforcement purpose.

Interest Based Advertising

The data collected is also used in Google’s Interest-based Advertising with Google Analytics. Visitors can opt-out of Google Analytics for Display Advertising and customize Google Display Network ads using the Google Ads Settings.

The personal information gained and retained following the methods mentioned above is used to fulfill your requests, to perform market research, to promote our Member and Partner’s consumer products, and to provide further information to you about our members, partners and our province. We do not sell, rent or otherwise lease customer lists, or customer information to third parties.

The collected information will never be used for any other purpose without your consent.

Disclosing Information

Your information may be shared with trusted partners to help perform statistical analysis, send you email or postal mail, provide customer support, or arrange for deliveries. All such third parties are prohibited from using your personal information except to provide these services, and they are required to maintain the confidentiality of your information.

Third Party Accounts

Our sites give the option to connect a third party account to your British Columbia Lodging & Campgrounds Association account. By choosing do so, you acknowledge and consent to the continuous release of information about you to others, in accordance with your privacy policy set on those third party sites. If you do not want information about you, including personally identifying information to be shared in this manner, do not use this feature. You may disconnect your account from a third party account at any time, by visiting their My Account page.

We will not disclose any personal information collected about you to anyone else, unless required to do so by law. We will comply with all laws, which require us to supply the information to government agencies and others.

In the event that the Company is ever sold, acquired, merged, liquidated, reorganized or otherwise transferred, we reserve the right to transfer our user databases, together with any personal information contained therein to a third party acquiring the Company or any of its assets.

Accessing Information

If you wish to review the personal information that we keep about you, please contact our Privacy Office at the address set out below. At your request, subject to applicable law, we will provide you with any personal information that we have obtained from you for your review. We will also delete or adjust your information from your records upon your request.

Please note that after we process a requested change or deletion of your personal information from our active systems and databases, it is possible that non-active residual copies of your information may still exist on physical systems at our offices or on back-up media sources.

Updating the Privacy Policy

The BC Lodging and Campgrounds Association strives to stay up to date and be current with issues concerning our customer’s privacy interests. As a result, we withhold the right to update or modify this Policy without notice, to meet the changing demands of technology and customer expectations. For this reason, we recommend that you review the Policy periodically.

Links to Other Web Sites

Our sites may contain links to external websites, which are not governed by this Privacy Policy. These links may be to websites of our members, partners, vendors, or other agencies that are deemed useful to improve our user experience. When you use one of these links, you are leaving our website, and entering into a different website and environment. An environment that is not governed by this document. As such, we are not responsible for the policies and practices which govern these sites.

We encourage you to read the new sites privacy policy to ensure that you are comfortable with their standards and practices before use.

Reservation and Listing Services

We make use of Nomad Reservations LLC for listings provided, as well as bookings and reservations made through our site. Nomad Reservations LLC secures your personal information from unauthorised access, use, or disclosure using current standards. If you are concerned about your information during this time we recommend that you review their privacy policy.

E-mail Communications

We provide an option for email communication for our reservation services, as well as our E-newsletter. Both of these are done so to make the process easier for our users, and the process can be opted out of at any time.

Reservations

Nomad Reservations LLC may, from time to time, contact you on our behalf, via email, for the purpose of providing announcements, promotional offers, alerts, confirmations, surveys, and/or other general communication. In order to improve our services, Nomad Reservations LLC may receive a notification when you open one of our emails, or follow a link therein.

E-Newsletter

We provide a sign-up page for any users interested in receiving a newsletter containing information related to their interest in our site. This newsletter is free of charge and is not a requirement to use the site. These emails are sent via Constant Contact, a third party emailing service we utilise. If you wish to know more about this service, we suggest that you review their privacy policy.

If you are uncomfortable with any part of this procedure, or do not wish to receive these communications, we suggest that you opt-out. Users may unsubscribe from marketing messages from their My Account page or via the unsubscribe link provided on all marketing emails. Notifications may also be customised on the My Account page, and we encourage you to take a look at this if you are unsatisfied with our email communication in any way.

It is not our intention to send emails to anyone who does not wish to receive them – you will only receive emails if you have expressly agreed to it.

Conclusion

We collect information from you for the sole purpose of improving our services and the user experiences provided by our websites.
